You’ve been asking, and we’ve been working — Alfred for Android is finally here!

We are super excited to share Alfred with Android users, and we can’t wait to hear what you think. What’s in store? The Alfred that you’ve been coveting for months comes with a new design with all of the goodies that our iOS users loved.

Those who looked on while their friends used Alfred on iPhone may be surprised. The app looks very different, optimized for the best Android experience. Don’t worry, though — Alfred himself is as excited as ever to help you out. With Alfred, you never miss places you’ll love!

Alfred is available (for free!) in the Android Market. Give him a try, and let us know what you think!

Alfred for Android is designed to be simple, fun, and serendipitous. He serves Quick Pick recommendations right from the get-go, so you don’t even have to tell him what it is you’re looking for.

All of Alfred’s most-loved characteristics are still around — his powerful AI brain, his care to learn about your likes, his desire to serve you the most highly curated recommendations, and his knowledge of all the information about each place.

The new design of Alfred gives him a more modern style, while creating a much smoother user experience throughout the app. Also, many of the features have been refined from the iOS version; for instance, it is now much easier to fine-tune your recommendations using the Filters pull-up menu. The Find tool is also much smarter at helping you look for anything specific you might have in mind.

We’ve been looking forward to this launch for a long time and hope that you guys enjoy it! I’ll let Alfred speak for himself via some screenshots.

Our signature card view! As always, Alfred’s Artificial Intelligence can tell you why he’s recommending each place and why it’s curated just for you.

If you prefer list view, you can now see more of your curated recommendations in a list for faster scrolling.

For any place you have a summary of useful information, links to photos, menu and other places that fans of that place also like.

In addition to shortcuts to useful actions such as calling or bookmarking a place that you want to check out later, there is a list of what others said was good and what is not so good about each place.

Refine Alfred’s results using the Filter tab, where you can narrow down his recommendations by your specifications.

And if you’re looking for something more specific, use Alfred’s powerful AI-assisted Find tool to help you discover your new favorite place!

You can still teach Alfred about your favorite places so he knows what you like.

Keep places you liked, recent places, and bookmarks handy.

Happy exploring!

We’re seeking feedback from longtime Alfred for iOS users and Android users who have been waiting for Alfred. If you’d like to chat with the Clever team about Alfred sometime next week, let me know via email (jade@thecleversense.com) or comment on this post. We’d love to talk in person if you’re in the Bay Area or video chat if you are further away.

The Clever Team has been working hard on a big Alfred update, and we’re thrilled to be able to share it with you!  Group Recommendations — now, you can tell Alfred who you’re dining with, and he’ll find places that your whole group will like.

Alfred already takes into account where you are, what time it is, and what sort of places you like, and now, with by taking into account tastes of people that are with you, the picture is complete.  We’ve prepared these preview screenshots and an infographic — hope you enjoy group recommendations as much as we did working on them!

Start here, in your normal individual recommendations.

Or so says InStyle Magazine.  The latest issue (November 2011) features Alfred in the “Apps you can’t live without” feature on page 272.

Alfred, featured in the bottom left. Also, it's very strange to be turning physical pages, reading about apps.

Magazines, now featuring iPads!  (Maybe these 1-year olds would approve.)

To celebrate the surprise beautiful weather and take a little break from our computer screens, we had a BBQ for lunch today in the great outdoors, or, at least, in the parking lot of our building.  We normally share lunch, but this one was a particular treat with the good food, good weather, and great people.

Chris tames fire to cook lunch!

Here are a few shots I took with Instagram when I wasn’t busy eating all the roasted potatoes and pumpkin pie.

Chris and Salil carve the beer can chicken. Yum.

All in all, a happy Friday at Clever Sense HQ.

Thanks to all our users who have been faithfully telling Alfred about all of your favorite places (and ones you didn’t like so much)!  Given that our engine loves data…we’re proud to release our very first infographic — starting off what we hope to be a series of interesting insights about going out with Alfred as your guide.

Hello from the Clever Sense HQ!  Welcome to our team blog, where we’ll post updates from the field, our thoughts on technology and such, and interesting findings from our data.  We are a small team with big ideas, and we’re excited to share them.

In our sound byte filled, 140-character-limited, busy start up world, blogging almost feels like long form communication.  Are you nostalgic for the days when saying, “Hello, world!” was a rush?  When broadcasting to the entire Internet was novel and intoxicating?  I am, a little.  I like feeling connected the way I do now, but it’s a lot of information, and I miss the magic a bit.  In part, Clever Sense aims to reinvent that magic.  You, and I, and others have shared all that information over these years — and now we can make sense of it.  Hello, world!
